Agip KCO awards Dietsmann contract for operation and maintenance of Kazakhstan power plant

ENI subsidiary Agip Kazakhstan North Caspian Operating Company (Agip KCO) has awarded Dietsmann the operation and maintenance contract at a plant providing power for the development and construction operations at Kashagan in Kazakhstan.

The scope of the contract, which became operational on December 1, 2009, covers the operation and maintenance of the power plant, together with a 110 KV switchyard, HV electrical distribution, four substations and overhead lines. The power plant itself includes four 42 MW gas turbines and two 35 MW steam turbines. The contract has an initial duration of five years, and is valued at EUR 15,000,000.

Agip KCO selected Dietsmann based on its extensive know-how in power plant operation and maintenance, and its 15 year long presence in Kazakhstan.

Dietsmann has been working in Kazakhstan for 15 years, with activities at the onshore Karachaganak field near Aksai, and at the giant offshore Kashagan field, 80 km south–east of Atyrau in the Caspian Sea. The Kashagan field is the largest oilfield discovered in the North Caspian Sea PSA contract area, and is considered to be the most important oil discovery worldwide since Prudhoe Bay in Alaska’s North Slope in 1968. While start of production at the field is not expected until the end of 2012, the plant that Dietsmann will operate and maintain is already providing power for the development and construction operations.
