Today is a day of mourning for the whole Dietsmann Group as Maurice Smulders, shareholder of Dietsmann since its early beginnings, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board until 2018, passed away on the 30th of December 2019.
Mr. Smulders was active as an entrepreneur throughout his business life, in various sectors including shipping, marine construction and real estate. Besides Dietsmann, which turned out to be his best investment, Maurice Smulders and Peter Kütemann were business partners in many ventures, from marine construction in Mexico to exploration and drilling in Texas and Oklahoma.
When our Chairman Peter Kütemann founded Dietsmann in 1977 and needed fresh capital, Mr. Smulders believed and invested in his dream, allowing Dietsmann to survive and grow.
Mr. Smulders continued to hold his 50% shareholding throughout the years, in good times as well as in difficult ones, showing his faith in and dedication to the Group.
Thanks to his warm personality, sense of humor and intelligence, he was considered a friend to many of us in the Company.
His curious and lively spirit will be sorely missed by everyone at Dietsmann. Mr. Smulders will forever remain part of the Dietsmann’s legacy.
Our thoughts and hearts go out to his family.
